Professor Rafael Mesquita (UFPE) was one of the instructors of a workshop on Digital Diplomacy and Artificial Intelligence. The course was one of the modules within a two-day training program titled “Strategic Mastery Series: Elevating Delegates through Workshops in Artificial Intelligence and Diplomacy”, delivered by the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNTIAR) at the Permanent Mission of the Principality of Monaco to the UN on December 13 and 14 in New York.

The program was attended by several diplomats from the Monaco mission, along with other representatives from Burundi, DRC, Eritrea, Haiti, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mongolia, Morrocco, Senegal, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, and Zambia. Professor Rafael’s two-part intervention centered first on differentiating between cyber, tech, and digital diplomacy, and then on mapping some of the implications of artificial intelligence for each domain. Additional topics covered by the five other lecturers conducting the workshop included cybersecurity, science diplomacy, and internet governance.
